Using Your Body to Heal Your Body

There’s been a lot of talk about immunity lately, as the world collectively watches the development and potential distribution of a precious vaccine during a not-so-typical cold and flu season. It got me thinking about what it means to be immune.

My first thought is, “Not affected. Untouchable.”

In the case of vaccines, in general, we use the thing we are trying to protect ourselves from as the protection. How poetic! We transform the thing that is doing harm into the thing that protects us from harm. We bring the threat closer to us and use it as protection.

To me, this is a kind of acknowledgement that we are, indeed, susceptible. That getting harmed or getting sick is inevitable. So if we accept the inevitable, that we aren’t untouchable, we create grounded space for ourselves to address how we handle the inevitable. It gives us a better chance of getting through it with less harm.

This concept is emerging in our work as mindful movement practitioners. Stress is inevitable. Injuries and misalignments are inevitable - this is being human. Our approach to prevention and healing acknowledges this reality and aims to support everyone we work with by providing the tools to move through that reality with more ease and grace. We help you use your body to heal your body.

To quote one of our clients:

You can feel your body recalibrating when you’re in the thick of darkness. You can feel it changing. That’s when growth happens there.

New in 2021: Moving Through the Chakras

Like many others, 2020 has been a year of exploration for us. We were honored that, through our exploration, we were able to collaborate with The Alchemist’s Kitchen for two mindful movement workshops in November.

These workshops laid the groundwork for a new group program coming in 2021: Moving Through the Chakras.

Each week for eight weeks, we will meet in our Zoom studio to use gentle aligning movement based in foundational Pilates principles, along with guidance from information the chakras provide to heighten your kinesthetic, emotional, and energetic awareness, connect to your physical, emotional, and energetic bodies, and build an internal mirror for continual reflection. In addition, you’ll receive tools and guidance to help you delve into the information and reflections that come up each week.

(Please note that this is not an in-depth course on the meaning and history of the chakras. Instead, the parallels of the chakra system to Pilates principles informs a creative and broadened way to help build awareness of the body.)

If you missed the workshops and want to get a better sense of what this type of work is all about, be sure to check out our IG Live with TAK here.

Client Spotlight

This month we are celebrating a husband and wife duo who have been working out together at home for the better part of this year. Despite the fact that their bodies need very different things and they approach exercise quite differently, they love coming together for an hour each week to take care of themselves.

They’ve adapted quite well to their home workouts, and we’ve loved seeing how they help each other through it and rise to the occasion to try new things together!

Witchy Wednesday

We are celebrating our 12th and final circle for 2020 on Wednesday, December 16 at 8:00pm EST.

As we gather together in support of each other, we will be in the first beams of light after the New Moon on December 14. This new moon/new lunar cycle also happens at the end of the 2020 calendar year as we approach the shortest days of winter leading up to the Winter Solstice. Beginning of a lunar cycle, end of a calendar cycle, end of a solstice cycle.

In the darkness of new moon energy, in the darkness of the shortest days of the year, we will go through some gentle rituals and visualization together as we continue to explore what tangible outcomes mean to each of us individually and collectively.
"Our way of being is the tangible outcome." - adrienne maree brown

Sign up below and save the date for our first moon gathering of the new year: Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
