A Love Letter to Endings

August 2020 marks the six year anniversary of The Co Pilates' inception. Six years ago, I made the scary decision many in my industry make to go out on my own. Operating out of a new studio, with a new name, a new commitment to professional evolution in mindful movement, but in the same vibrant Union Square, Manhattan. December 2015 would see me move right back into the studio I had left, with a new partnership in the space, a new look for the space, but same lovely Union Square. July 2019 would see me take over the studio space yet again, this time completely on my own, renewing and deepening a longtime partnership in the wellness space the studio called home, but same familiar Union Square.

How fitting that almost six years to the day, I would break down and pack up every last little piece of the studio and say goodbye to Union Square as my daily stomping ground.

How fitting that on the month of my “work anniversary,” as LinkedIn calls it, I would close the door to a space I’ve called my professional home for 10 years.

It was the place of one of my first interviews when I was brand spanking new to NYC. It’s seen me go through so much growth in my personal and professional life. It’s been my home base for so many trying and celebratory times. This space, those walls, watched me take on New York and grow up. If walls could talk...

Yes, this is sad to say the least. Goodbyes and endings have a certain amount of inherent sadness to them. Zooming out (no pun intended), I not only have some sadness for my own endings but for all the other businesses in NYC, and Union Square specifically, that are doing the same exact thing. And yet, I think it’s important to name THE THING. We are living in the time of a pandemic; this is the reality, plain and simple.

Even though this reality is a heavy weight none of us still fully know how to interact with or carry, I also have so much peace, gratitude, and hope within this reality and ending.

The fact is, I’ve been in that space and in that neighborhood for 10 years, it’s ok to be done. This is not the end of our studio, our work, or our community, it is just the end of the work that space was allowing us to do. Something I’ve come to very deeply appreciate despite all the glitches is that we are now operating in spaces all over the country in multiple time zones. What an amazing thing to be able to say at a time like this! I am so appreciative of all of the clients, colleagues, and collaborators that have been working with us and supporting us throughout this year.

I have been feeling change and expansion coming for a while but was never really sure when it would finally land and what it would look like. I can say with total sincerity that I am thankful for this ending and the chance for new opportunities to evolve the work we’ve been doing in that sweet little space in Union Square for so long.

With Every Ending, There Is a Beginning

We are excited to share with you new ideas and offerings we are creating as we spread our wings into this new, growing virtual studio. We are now available to be a resource for corporate wellness, whether that be a one-time informative Lunch and Learn or an ongoing specialized class for team building and an addition to healthy corporate community.

In addition, while I have never hidden my background and approach, the energy work of Reiki has never been something I’ve actively advertised as its own offering. The times, they are a-changing. I’m now offering energy healing sessions through the modality of Reiki as its own experience on my schedule.

#WitchyWednesday

On Wednesday, September 16 at 8:00pm EDT, I will be hosting another Witchy Wednesday Women's Circle!

This new moon comes just a week before the Autumn Equinox and Harvest Full Moon. It tells us that change is coming, yet again. We will use this time to honor the seeds we've planted, how they've grown, and the harvest that is coming in. We will also take this opportunity to reflect on the differences between what we thought we would be harvesting and what we are actually harvesting.

What we've been exploring fairly consistently in our new moon circles is the "in between" or the "unseen": What's in the empty room, the void? What's in the gray area between the light and the dark, the space between our beliefs and our reality? What untapped power lies in the unseen? The new moon is a great time to feel into this. Let's explore it together.

I hope you will consider joining us! And if this isn't your thing, it feels like too much right now, you can't make it, or you have family/friends who are struggling and/or are ill, I'm offering to hold space in the circle, send Reiki, and include you/them in our "group shout out." If this is something you'd be interested in, simply reply to this email and I'll include you.
